Hearts - 6x6 Black & White

Bob Burridge does small studies of pears. Watch this video to see what I mean.
I struggle with lighting so I decided I would do my own version of pears but with hearts.

Below is a 6x6" canvas painting I did while at the workshop and next week is going to be all hearts. Most of them painted at the workshop.

I will most likely go back and add color to this one but right now I'm enjoying the simplicity of it.

That is so awesome! I have three questions:
1. So you don't hold a paint brush like a pencil?
2. Is it easier to paint on a 24" x 24" or 6" x 6"?
3. He doesn't look at an object like a realist to see light and shadow?

1. I don't think so, no. It depends on what I'm painting. I might if I'm doing something detailed.
2. It also depends what I'm painting. I painted larger at the workshop and it felt easier than I was working on the 6x6 canvas. More room.
3. huh? He follows Rembrandt style when it comes to lighting... was Rembrandt a realist? I don't remember. He is an abstract painter and the way he sees the light amazes me but I have no clue if it is like a realist or not... I not that smart. :) ha ha.
